I have many HD videos on my external hard drive for playback on the networked media player, Popcorn Hour. The files are in .mts format from different camcorders, Canon HF R20, Lumix TZ7 and Panasonic HDC-HS700. I would like to import them to Final Cut Pro 7 to make a DVD as present.
Even though it is said that FCP supports the AVCHD files from the AVCHD folder structure, I could not get it work via Log & Transfer. When looking for the solution to import AVCHD to FCP from external hard drive, I notice that the problem might be related to the 1080/60p files from HS700. But I could not easy identify which file for 1080i or which for 1080p now. The only solution for me now is to convert AVCHD to Apple ProRes 422 HQ for editing in FCP 7. Wait for the conversion, and then you can edit HD videos on FCP 7 by choosing File > Import > Files.
Tips:
1. You can change the output folder for storing the ProRes 422 files.
2. To get videos without interlacing artifacts, just tick the box for deinterlace before clicking the Export button.
As the reason of recent activities, I have a lot of different .mts videos for editing. These .mts video most are from camera, camcorder, like Sony CX700, XR520, Sony Nex-5, Canon HF G10, HG20, HF100, Panasonic HDC-TM90, SD700, Lumix GH2.etc. Some .mts videos can be directly into FCP editing, some not. So in order to edit all mts video on FCP, I need a converter to import and convert various mts. Tips: You are free to set/adjust output ProRes MOV files parameters (Bit rate – high quality, Frame rate – 30, Resolution/Size – 1920 x 1080, channel – 5.1 channel) to make a good output quality.
Step 4. Click OK to start converting/merging different AVCHD MTS to ProRes.
Click OK button, the software will automatic joining and converting the various mts files into one big files.
When the conversion is finished, you can get big files for importing and editing on Final Cut Pro without rendering.
Tips: If you are using Final Cut Pro 5 or lower version, ProRes is not the best format for you. However, you can choose QuickTime Movie Format > Apple InterMediate Codec(AIC) as output format for editing on Mac.
